Where Winds Meet Lightness Skills: Fly and Wall Run

Unlock the movement you actually need. This guide separates flight skills from regional permits, walks through Afterglow, maps the old 飛簷 names to current Wallstride skills, and diagnoses the common 'learned but unusable' state.

Pinned answer

A Lightness Skill and a regional permit are two different unlocks.

If a flight or Wallstride skill appears learned but will not activate, do not farm another copy of the skill. First check the region. Qinghe requires its Afterglow Pendant; Kaifeng requires its own Flight Medallion. The skill decides how you move, while the regional item decides where that movement is allowed.

Fastest reliable route

Unlock Meteor Flight through Afterglow, then earn permission to use it.

  1. 01

    Track Jianghu Legacy 05: Afterglow

Ask the Moonveil Mountain Wayfarer about the Jianghu Legacy, then track Afterglow from Qinghe's Exploration menu.

  2. 02

Find the fisherman at the Moonveil lake

Follow the tracker toward Witherwilds. The Porcelain Kiln fast-travel point is the useful approach if it is already open.

  3. 03

Speak to Qiu Yuehai and finish the QTE

The fisherman reveals himself as Master Qiu Yuehai and demonstrates Meteor Flight before setting the real test.

  4. 04

Cross the wine jars to the boat

Use single, double and triple jumps as the gaps widen, then finish with a double jump and dash. Falling returns you to the last jar, so do not restart the quest.

  5. 05

    Claim the Meteor Flight manual

Interact at the boat after the challenge. This learns a flight skill; it does not yet grant unrestricted flight in every region.

  6. 06

Earn the permit for the region you are in

Qinghe flight requires Exploration Level 4 and its Afterglow Pendant. Kaifeng uses its own Flight Medallion. A permit from one region does not unlock another.

Do not merge the two gates: Afterglow teaches Meteor Flight. Qinghe Exploration Level 4 grants the Afterglow Pendant that lets a learned flight skill operate in Qinghe.

Flight choices

Four flight styles, one regional-permit rule.

Flight skillUnlockWhat matters
Meteor FlightComplete Jianghu Legacy 05: AfterglowThe direct quest route and the best first check when flight is still locked.
Thousand-Mile FlightClaim the Day 4 reward in A Warrior's JourneyA second flight style; it still needs the active region's permit.
Fan GliderReach Qinghe Exploration Level 5 (6,000 points)A fan-themed flight option unlocked one exploration tier after Qinghe's permit.
Wind RiderReach Qinghe Exploration Level 6 (9,000 points)The later Qinghe exploration flight reward; do not confuse it with the Level 4 permit.

All four are flight tools. The visible theme changes, but none replaces the permit check. If the current problem is simply “I cannot fly,” solve Afterglow and the region gate before comparing styles.

Wall and ground movement

Submit Oddities at Melodies of Peace for both Wallstride milestones.

飛簷步仞

Wallstride - Swiftstride

Submit 21 Oddities

Improves wall running and lets you clear wall edges more easily.

The old Chinese description says it is used between walls and eaves, which is the mechanic match for Swiftstride.

飛簷逐影

Wallstride - Shadowdash

Submit 45 Oddities in total

Improves fast ground movement and permits running across water.

The old Chinese description emphasizes high-speed travel over terrain, which is the mechanic match for Shadowdash.

Why some English pages look contradictory

The consolidated current Lightness table and multiple route cross-checks place Swiftstride at 21 Oddities and Shadowdash at 45. Some individual reference pages mix those numbers between a heading and the node description. Treat the in-game Melodies of Peace reward chain as final: claim the first Wallstride node, then keep submitting until both are owned.

Stuck-state diagnosis

Check the failed gate instead of repeating the whole route.

01

The skill is learned, but the cast is blocked

Check the current region's Exploration level and permit item. Learning a Lightness Skill and receiving permission to use it are separate gates.

02

Meteor Flight is missing

Track Afterglow under Qinghe Jianghu Legacies. If it is not listed, speak to the Moonveil Mountain Wayfarer first.

03

The Afterglow Pendant does nothing

Finish the Afterglow Jianghu Legacy as well as Qinghe Exploration Level 4. The item enables a learned skill; it does not teach one by itself.

04

Flight works in Qinghe but not Kaifeng

Raise Kaifeng Exploration to its own permit milestone. Qinghe's Afterglow Pendant is region-specific.

05

The wine-jar challenge keeps failing

Use the widening gaps as the cue to add jumps. A fall returns you to the last jar, so continue from the checkpoint and save the dash for the final gap.

06

Wallstride is absent after turning in Oddities

Open the Melodies of Peace reward chain and claim the reached node. Swiftstride and Shadowdash are separate milestones, not one combined skill.

07

A guide swaps the 21 and 45 Oddity requirements

Use the in-game reward chain as the final authority. The current consolidated Lightness list places Swiftstride at 21 and Shadowdash at 45; some individual guide copy mixes its headings and node text.

FAQ

Short answers for the searches that usually lead here.

How do I unlock flying in Where Winds Meet?

Complete Jianghu Legacy 05: Afterglow to learn Meteor Flight, then reach the Exploration milestone that grants the current region's flight permit. In Qinghe, that is Exploration Level 4 and the Afterglow Pendant.

Why is my Lightness Skill unlocked but unusable?

Lightness Skills have two gates: the skill itself and a region-specific permit. Check the permit for the region where the cast is failing; Qinghe and Kaifeng do not share one unlock.

How do I unlock Wallstride in Where Winds Meet?

Collect Oddities, submit them through the Melodies of Peace reward chain, and claim the Wallstride nodes. The current consolidated route lists Swiftstride at 21 submitted Oddities and Shadowdash at 45 total.

What are 飛簷步仞 and 飛簷逐影 in the Global version?

Their effects and shared Qinghe Oddity route map to Wallstride - Swiftstride and Wallstride - Shadowdash. 飛簷步仞 is the wall-and-eaves move; 飛簷逐影 is the fast ground and water-running move.

Do all flight skills unlock flight in every region?

No. Owning Meteor Flight, Thousand-Mile Flight, Fan Glider or Wind Rider gives you a flight style, but each region still requires its own Exploration permit.

Which Lightness Skill prevents fall damage?

Safe Mighty Drop is the movement skill built for that job. It is a first-clear reward from Mysterious Outpost in western Moonveil Mountain.
