Where Winds Meet Vitality Guide: Recover and Increase

Vitality is the white combat resource behind Mystic Skills. It slowly returns during combat, costs nothing when a Mystic Skill is used outside combat, and gains a larger maximum through Oddity progress. This guide replaces old Essence and 精元 advice with the current Global system.

Pinned answer

Vitality is a combat meter, not an item you need to refill after every cast.

The white portion of the lower-right HUD meter is your current Vitality. Combat Mystic Skills consume it, and it slowly refills while you fight. Mystic Skills used outside combat do not spend Vitality, although their cooldown still runs. For a larger maximum, collect Oddities, submit them to the matching Oddity vendor, and unlock Vitality nodes in Melodies of Peace.

Oddities into Melodies of Peace nodes

Older Chinese and translated guides call this resource 精元, Jingyuan, or Essence. In the current Global UI, use Vitality. Do not confuse it with Energy for activity claims, Stamina for crafting, Spirit Essence generated by combat actions, or Prismatic Essence used elsewhere in progression.

Action plan

Diagnose a Vitality shortage before changing your build.

  1. 1

    Find the white Vitality meter

Look at the lower-right HUD during combat. The white portion is current Vitality. If a guide points you to an inventory currency, activity Energy, or crafting Stamina, it is describing a different system.

  2. 2

Separate an empty meter from a cooldown

A Mystic Skill can be unavailable because its cooldown is still running, because its combat condition is not met, or because Vitality is low. Read the skill icon and meter together before assuming the resource failed to recover.

  3. 3

    Pace Mystic Skills during combat

Vitality returns slowly while you fight. Leave room between expensive casts, use Martial Arts and normal combat actions during the recovery window, and reserve a high-cost Mystic Skill for the opening, control, escape, or burst moment it is meant to solve.

  4. 4

Use exploration Mystic Skills without resource anxiety

Outside combat, Mystic Skills do not consume Vitality. Their cooldown still applies, so a grey icon after an exploration cast does not mean the meter is broken or that you need a recovery item.

  5. 5

    Raise maximum Vitality through Oddities

Collect Oddities in the open world and submit them to the relevant Oddity vendor. That progress unlocks nodes in Melodies of Peace, and some of those nodes increase maximum Vitality. Inspect the node reward before spending the available upgrade point.

  6. 6

Consider Fury Harvest only after the basic fix

Fury Harvest is an Inner Way built around additional Vitality from Spirit Essence and, at later tiers, partial refunds. Its guarantees and refund behavior depend on tier, so read the effect at your current tier instead of copying a max-tier sustain claim.

Decision table

Match the symptom to the right Vitality fix.

Meter empties early

Stop chaining Mystic Skills and assign each cast a job in the fight.

Vitality recovers slowly during combat; spacing casts gives the meter time to return while other actions keep pressure up.

Skill is grey, meter is not empty

Check cooldown and activation conditions before changing resources or gear.

Cooldowns still apply even outside combat, and an unavailable skill is not proof of a Vitality shortage.

Exploration Mystic Skill

Use it when needed and wait out the cooldown; do not save Vitality for it.

Mystic Skills cast outside combat do not consume Vitality under the current rule.

Need a larger meter

Collect and submit Oddities, then inspect Vitality nodes in Melodies of Peace.

This is the documented permanent maximum-Vitality route and does not depend on a temporary consumable.

Need combat sustain

Review Fury Harvest at the tier you actually own and compare it with your current Inner Way needs.

Its bonus Vitality and later refund effects change by tier; a max-tier description is not your current effect.

Old guide recommends pills

Do not buy or farm anything until the current item tooltip explicitly says it restores Vitality.

Legacy 精元 articles may describe regional items, markets, or caps that do not match the current Global client.

You mean activity claims

Open the Energy Recovery Guide instead.

Campaign, Outpost, and Sword Trial claims consume Energy, not combat Vitality.

Problem fixes

Five common Vitality failures and what they actually mean.

I cannot cast another Mystic Skill in combat

Check the white Vitality meter and the skill cooldown. If Vitality is low, continue with Martial Arts and normal combat actions while it slowly refills. If the meter is available, the block is probably cooldown or a skill condition.

Vitality does not drop during exploration

That is expected. Mystic Skills used outside combat do not expend Vitality. The skill still enters cooldown, so track the icon rather than expecting the white meter to move.

My maximum Vitality feels too small

Check your Oddity turn-ins and Melodies of Peace progress. Some nodes increase maximum Vitality. This is a collection and progression route, not a reason to buy an unverified legacy recovery pill.

Fury Harvest is not giving the advertised refund

Read the Inner Way at its current tier. Early tiers add or improve bonus Vitality from specified Spirit Essence actions; the larger recent-spend refund appears at a later tier. A fully upgraded description may not apply to your copy.

Search results call the resource Essence

Use Essence or 精元 only to find older material. Match the lower-right white meter and current Vitality tooltip before following any cap, item, gear-set, auction, or rest instruction from that material.

In combat

Cast, then make space

Vitality returns slowly while Martial Arts and normal actions carry the next part of the fight.

Out of combat

No Vitality cost

Exploration uses still trigger cooldown, which is separate from the resource meter.

Bigger maximum

Turn in Oddities

Use Melodies of Peace nodes that explicitly list a maximum-Vitality increase.

Advanced sustain

Read Fury Harvest by tier

Its Spirit Essence bonuses and later refund are not identical at every upgrade level.

Sources and questions

Where the current rules came from, plus the next useful route.

How do you recover Vitality in Where Winds Meet?

Vitality slowly refills during combat. Space out Mystic Skill casts and use Martial Arts or normal combat actions during the recovery window instead of trying to chain every skill at once.

How do you increase maximum Vitality?

Collect Oddities, submit them to the relevant Oddity vendors, and unlock Melodies of Peace nodes that explicitly increase maximum Vitality.

Do Mystic Skills use Vitality outside combat?

No. Mystic Skills used outside combat do not consume Vitality, but their normal cooldown still applies.

Is Essence the same as Vitality?

Essence, Jingyuan, and 精元 are older or translated names used in legacy guides for the combat Mystic Skill resource. The current Global label is Vitality, and old numbers or recovery methods should be rechecked.

Does Fury Harvest restore Vitality?

Fury Harvest can add bonus Vitality from specified Spirit Essence actions and gains a partial recent-spend refund at a later tier. Read the effect at your current tier because the guarantees and refund are upgrade-dependent.
