Where Winds Meet Breakthrough Guide: Caps & Stored EXP

When the level bar stops, read the Solo Mode gate before farming. The answer is usually a cap, a countdown, a Taiping prerequisite, or a Breakthrough fight.

Pinned answer

Do not grind until you know which gate is closed.

Fastest correct route

Mode Switch → Solo Mode Level → read the next condition.

More Character EXP cannot solve a Solo Mode cap. The panel tells you whether the missing piece is time, character level, a direct Breakthrough, or a Taiping Mausoleum Foundation Trial.

Stored EXP is not a second level bar.

It waits behind the cap and returns automatically through later EXP gains. There is no Bag item, exchange shop, or manual claim button.

Level stopped

Check Solo Mode

More EXP cannot raise a character past the current Solo Mode cap.

Unlocks later

Wait, then return

An account-day or season timer cannot be cleared by extra farming.

Go to Trial

Open Taiping

The next gate is a named Foundation Trial, not another EXP bar.

Stored EXP

Automatic later

It is not a currency and has no manual spend button.

Four progression tracks

Character, Solo, Online, and Martial Arts levels answer different questions.

TrackWhat it showsHow it advancesWhat blocks it
Character LevelThe number beside your character and ordinary EXP barQuests, exploration, combat, and other EXP sourcesCannot pass the active Solo Mode Level cap
Solo Mode LevelYour solo-world tier, cap, difficulty, and next conditionBreakthrough plus any displayed account-day or trial requirementMay ask you to wait, reach a level, or clear Taiping Mausoleum
Online Mode LevelShared-world and multiplayer availabilityIts own schedule and activity rulesA Solo Breakthrough does not automatically unlock every online activity
Martial Arts LevelBuild readiness rather than your visible character levelActive Martial Arts, gear, Inner Ways, Mystic Skills, Talents, and related growthA high character level can still leave a weak or ineligible combat build

“Level requirement” is incomplete information. Always identify which track the activity names before upgrading or waiting.

Symptom ledger

Match the exact message before choosing a fix.

01

The EXP bar stopped, but EXP messages still appear

Character cap reached

Open Mode Switch > Solo Mode Level. Check the current cap and next condition before farming anything else.

02

The panel says Unlocks in 1 day or shows a countdown

Time gate

Stop grinding for the button. Keep playing if you want Stored EXP or other progress, then return after the displayed timer.

03

The button says Go to Trial

Taiping requirement

Open Wandering Paths > Taiping Mausoleum and clear the exact Foundation Trial named by the Solo Mode panel.

04

Breakthrough is available

Combat gate

Prepare the active build, start the challenge from the panel, and clear its win condition before the timer or failure state.

05

The trial is clear, but the cap did not move

Confirmation pending

Return to Solo Mode Level and confirm the Breakthrough. A Taiping clear and the tier promotion can be two separate actions.

06

The Main Chapter asks for a higher level

Progression wall

Check Solo Mode Level first. A quest marker cannot bypass an account-day, level, or Foundation Trial condition.

07

An online activity is still locked after Breakthrough

Wrong progression track

Read its Online Mode Level, Martial Arts Level, role, or activity requirement. Solo and online gates are not interchangeable.

08

The panel already shows the current seasonal ceiling

No higher cap yet

Do not farm EXP for a nonexistent tier. Work on build, exploration, or activity goals until an official update changes the live cap.

Breakthrough route

Six steps from a stopped EXP bar to an open cap.

Step 1

Open the Mode Switch

Use the bamboo-hat mode icon in the HUD. If the HUD is hidden or your platform uses a different input, open the main menu and follow the level-cap prompt instead.

Step 2

Choose Solo Mode Level

Read the current character cap and the complete next-tier condition. Do not stop after seeing only the required character level.

Step 3

Separate the blocker

The panel may require a character level, an account-day countdown, a direct Breakthrough fight, a Taiping Foundation Trial, or more than one of those at once.

Step 4

Follow Breakthrough or Go to Trial

Breakthrough starts the tier challenge. Go to Trial sends you to the prerequisite activity; use the exact chapter and objective displayed in your client.

Step 5

Return and confirm the promotion

After the prerequisite clear, reopen Solo Mode Level. Confirm the new tier and collect or equip any newly relevant reward before rushing into harder enemies.

Step 6

Resume normal EXP gain

Stored EXP is applied automatically through later EXP gains after the cap opens. There is no bag item or manual conversion button to search for.

Caps and current ceiling

Early account days are predictable; seasonal maximums are not permanent.

Account Day 2Lv. 3Level 30

Account Day 18Lv. 7Level 60

Official Season 3 pacing

95 stays 95

The official April plan raised Solo Mode to Lv. 14 with Character Level 95 and Tier 91 gear. In the second half, Solo Mode Lv. 15 added attribute and system growth while Character Level remained 95 and Tier 91 stayed standard.

That is why “higher Solo Mode” and “higher Character Level” are not always the same update. Future seasons can replace this ceiling, so check the live panel before trusting any max-level headline.

“Account Day” starts when that character begins playing, not when the global game version launched. Missing a day does not freeze future cap availability, although every displayed prerequisite still has to be completed.

Taiping Mausoleum

Go to Trial means the cap is waiting on a Foundation clear.

Read the chapter before choosing the build.

Taiping chapters rotate between time and remaining-HP objectives and provide chapter-specific boosts. Speed advice can be wrong for a survival gate, and a defensive setup can miss a timer.

Exact live chapter text overrides this reference table.

Preparation pass

Upgrade the loaded build, not the account in theory.

CheckReady looks likeLow-regret fix
Active Martial ArtsBoth equipped weapons are upgraded for the current cap and belong to the Battle Build you actually load.Upgrade the active pair before spreading materials across unused weapons.
GearCurrent-level raw stats are equipped; enhancement and safe tuning are not far behind the cap.Replace obviously old pieces first. Do not chase a perfect set just to clear one gate.
Inner Ways and TalentsEvery active slot supports the weapon trigger or a clear survival job at the tier you own.Remove passives whose weapon, status, or late breakthrough effect is not active.
Mystic SkillsThe hotbar has a planned damage, control, defense, movement, or emergency answer.Equip learned skills and confirm enough Vitality before entering the trial.
ObjectiveYou know whether the chapter rewards speed, remaining HP, deflection, dodge, or another displayed condition.Read the chapter boost and Foundation objective before copying a generic build.
ConsumablesMedicine and one relevant food or scroll buff are available without consuming scarce items blindly.Use a named need, not panic spending, to choose the buff.

Push now

Current enemies are comfortable, the gate is open, and the loaded build is near its present cap.

Prepare first

You barely survive ordinary content or the trial exposes one obvious gear, trigger, healing, or objective failure.

Wait without grinding

The live panel shows an account-day or seasonal timer. More EXP does not shorten it.

Failure diagnosis

Use the failed run as a report, not a verdict on the build.

01

You time out with enemies still healthy

This is a damage or target-priority problem. Upgrade the active weapon pair, check that its Inner Way triggers are live, use the chapter boost, and kill low-health or disruptive targets before chasing one durable enemy.

02

You survive but lose the time objective

A one-star Foundation clear can be a different goal from a three-star reward attempt. Read what the Solo Mode panel actually requires, then return for score later if the extra stars are not part of the gate.

03

You die before damage becomes the issue

Raise current gear and HP first, equip a dependable heal or shield, deflect the attacks you recognize, and dodge red attacks. A slightly slower living build beats a burst setup that never reaches the last wave.

04

Enemy Qi keeps recovering

Use defense-breaking tools, Execute windows, and control deliberately. Current Taiping references call out Meridian Touch as one option, but it is a tool, not a mandatory universal build.

05

Your upgrades changed nothing

Confirm the upgraded weapons, gear, Inner Ways, and Mystic Skills are in the active Battle Build. An item in the Bag or another saved loadout does not improve the run you loaded.

06

Stored EXP is not disappearing

First raise the cap, then earn fresh EXP. Stored EXP returns automatically alongside later gains; it is not emptied by opening the menu or pressing Breakthrough once.

07

The world feels much harder after promotion

Solo Mode progression raises the world tier as well as the cap. Equip the new gear step, review enhancement limits, and fix the active build before treating every stronger enemy as a balance bug.

08

An old guide names a different max level

Treat that number as a dated season snapshot. The official Season 3 pacing kept Character Level at 95 while Solo Mode advanced from Lv. 14 to Lv. 15; the live panel is the final current ceiling.

Direct answers

Where Winds Meet Breakthrough and Stored EXP FAQ.

Why did my level stop increasing in Where Winds Meet?

Your Character Level probably reached the cap allowed by the current Solo Mode Level. Open Mode Switch > Solo Mode Level and read the next requirement instead of farming more EXP blindly.

Where is the Solo Mode Breakthrough button?

Open the bamboo-hat Mode Switch, select Solo Mode Level, then open the current tier. The action may read Breakthrough or Go to Trial depending on the next requirement.

What is Stored EXP?

Stored EXP is experience banked while your visible Character Level is capped. It is applied automatically through later EXP gains after you open the next cap.

Can I spend Stored EXP manually?

No. It is not an inventory currency. Raise the cap, then keep earning ordinary EXP so the stored pool can be returned automatically.

Does Stored EXP disappear if I wait?

Current references describe it as a banked pool rather than lost EXP. Check the three-dot EXP detail in your character panel, and let the live client control the exact return behavior and any storage limit.

Why does Breakthrough say Go to Trial?

Some Solo Mode promotions require a Taiping Mausoleum Foundation Trial. Open the named chapter through Wandering Paths, clear the displayed prerequisite, then return to Solo Mode Level to confirm the promotion.

Do I need three stars in Taiping Mausoleum?

Follow the exact Solo Mode requirement. Foundation chapters have separate one-, two-, and three-star objectives, and a progression clear can be different from a full reward clear. Do not assume three stars unless the live gate asks for them.

What is the current maximum level?

The official Season 3 pacing set Character Level 95 and Tier 91 gear as the stable ceiling while Solo Mode advanced from Lv. 14 to Lv. 15. Check the live Solo Mode Level panel because future seasons can change that number.

Is Online Mode Level the same as Solo Mode Level?

No. Solo Mode Level controls personal-world progression and Character Level caps. Online Mode and individual multiplayer activities use their own availability and readiness requirements.

Should I Breakthrough immediately?

Do it when the gate is open and your active build handles current enemies comfortably. If the last fights already feel unstable, take a short preparation pass first; the account-day cap continues to advance even when you do not rush every promotion.
