Pinned answer

Use the Moonveil Peak Qiu Yuehai, then steal the skill from behind the marked boulder.

After reaching level 8, travel to the Moonveil Peak Boundary Stone in Qinghe and head southeast to the grassy arch. Speak to Qiu Yuehai beside the large rock, then use Wind Sense to reveal a white beam behind the boulder between you and the martial artist. Hide there, face the artist, start Skill Theft, press only the yellow or gold circles, and let grey circles pass. Fill the progress bar within 60 seconds to learn Veil of Stillness, then report back to Qiu Yuehai to finish the quest.

Region

Moonveil Mountain, Qinghe

Gate

Reach character level 8

Unlock action

Complete the Skill Theft timing

Current references show this quest as Skill Theft: Unearned Lesson and also Skill Theft: Rightful Acquisition. They are the same 取之有道 route. Qiu Yuehai also appears at Heaven's Pier for Foul Play and Celestial Seize; that is a different quest and the wrong location for Veil of Stillness.

Unlock route

Six steps from the level gate to the final Qiu Yuehai report.

  1. 1

    Reach character level 8

The Skill Theft encounter does not appear before level 8. If the marker or NPC is missing, continue early Qinghe progression until the character-level gate is met before changing time or searching other Qiu Yuehai locations.

  2. 2

    Go southeast from Moonveil Peak

Use the Moonveil Peak Boundary Stone in Moonveil Mountain, Qinghe. Head southeast until you reach a grassy clearing with a stone arch and a large boulder. This is the current Global start area for the quest.

  3. 3

Speak to Qiu Yuehai beside the rock

Talk to the Qiu Yuehai who is watching a martial artist from a distance. Do not use his Heaven's Pier location: that version starts Foul Play for Celestial Seize and does not open this stealth lesson.

  4. 4

Use Wind Sense to find the hiding spot

Activate Wind Sense after the conversation and look behind the large boulder between Qiu Yuehai and the martial artist. A white beam marks the observation position. Stand behind the rock so the teacher cannot see you.

  5. 5

Clear the Skill Theft circle timing

Face the martial artist from the hiding spot and start Skill Theft. You have 60 seconds. Press when a yellow or gold circle appears; do not press grey circles, because they remove progress and make the timer harder to beat.

  6. 6

Confirm the skill, then report back

Veil of Stillness is learned when the Skill Theft bar completes. Return to Qiu Yuehai afterward to close the Exploration quest and continue its dialogue. If the skill is in your menu but the journal remains active, this final report is the missing step.

Global and older guides

杳無形, Veil of Stillness and both Skill Theft quest titles point to one route.

ReferenceWhat to use now
Current Global skillVeil of Stillness is the current English name for the stealth Mystic Skill learned near Moonveil Peak.
Original Chinese name杳無形 (Yao Wuxing) is the older source identity and describes the same reduced-presence effect.
Quest titleSkill Theft: Unearned Lesson and Skill Theft: Rightful Acquisition are both used for the Global route corresponding to 取之有道.
Final claimCompleting the hidden observation mini-game teaches the skill. Returning to Qiu Yuehai finishes the wider quest and its remaining dialogue.

Troubleshooting and use

Check the level, Qiu Yuehai location, white beam and circle colour in that order.

The Skill Theft quest is not on my map

Reach character level 8, then search southeast of the Moonveil Peak Boundary Stone in Qinghe. The grassy arch and large boulder are more reliable landmarks than searching the full map for the translated quest title.

Qiu Yuehai starts Foul Play instead

You are at Heaven's Pier. Foul Play is his Celestial Seize quest. For Veil of Stillness, use the Qiu Yuehai southeast of Moonveil Peak beside the large boulder and martial artist.

I cannot begin observing the martial artist

Finish Qiu Yuehai's opening conversation, activate Wind Sense, and move behind the boulder marked by a white beam. Looking from the road or standing beside the teacher does not satisfy the hidden observation position.

My Skill Theft progress keeps dropping

Press only the yellow or gold circles. Grey circles are failure cues and deduct progress when pressed. Waiting through a grey cue is better than trying to hit every circle.

The 60-second timer expired

Restart from the marked hiding spot and prioritize accuracy over speed. Missing a valid circle costs time, but pressing grey circles actively reverses progress and is the more common reason the bar never finishes.

I learned the skill but the quest is still active

Return to Qiu Yuehai after the Skill Theft succeeds. The skill unlock and the quest wrap-up are separate checkpoints, so the journal can remain active even though Veil of Stillness already appears in Mystic Skills.

Veil of Stillness stops working when I attack

That is the documented boundary, not an unlock bug. The skill reduces detection for stealth approaches, but direct combat breaks the concealment effect.

Primary job

Stealth approach

Use it to move past sightlines or set up an interaction before enemies enter direct combat, especially around outposts and patrol routes.

Failure condition

Combat breaks the veil

It is reduced detection, not permanent invisibility. Once direct fighting begins, switch to a combat plan instead of recasting it as a defensive escape.

Touch of Death

Possible stealth setup

The older source suggests using concealment to approach for Touch of Death, but the target still has to satisfy that skill's weak and unaware eligibility rules.

Upgrade cost

No breakthrough ranks

The current skill reference lists Veil of Stillness as non-upgradeable, so it does not need Ebon Iron or a tier-promotion material plan.

How do you unlock Veil of Stillness in Where Winds Meet?

Reach level 8, speak to Qiu Yuehai southeast of Moonveil Peak, use Wind Sense to hide behind the marked boulder, then complete Skill Theft by pressing yellow or gold circles and ignoring grey circles.

Where is Qiu Yuehai for Veil of Stillness?

He is southeast of the Moonveil Peak Boundary Stone in Moonveil Mountain, Qinghe, beside a large boulder and grassy arch. His Heaven's Pier location belongs to the separate Foul Play quest.

Are Unearned Lesson and Rightful Acquisition the same quest?

Yes. Current references use both Skill Theft: Unearned Lesson and Skill Theft: Rightful Acquisition for the route corresponding to the older Chinese title 取之有道.

Which circles should I press during Skill Theft?

Press the yellow or gold circles. Let grey circles pass because pressing them deducts progress from the bar.

Is 杳無形 the same as Veil of Stillness?

Yes. 杳無形 is the original Chinese name used by the older guide, while Veil of Stillness is the current Global English name.

Does Veil of Stillness work during combat?

It is designed to reduce detection before direct combat. The concealment fails once a fight begins, so it should not be treated as permanent invisibility or a combat escape.
