Leaping Toad is a short unlock only when the shrine scene is normal. This thread separates the route, the real observation target, the gold-ring timing, the automatic reward, and the later quest state that can temporarily remove every nearby NPC.

Shortest correct method

Travel to General's Shrine, take the southwest exit, and talk to Liang Xiaolong. Then observe the real toad beside him.

During Skill Theft: Amazing Toad, wait for the gold ring and use the control displayed by your own platform. Repeat until the meter is full. The skill is awarded automatically; open the collection and equip it if no combat button appears.

Check whether Leaping Toad is already learned

Open the Mystic Skill collection and search Leaping Toad before returning to the shrine. A missing combat button can mean the skill is owned but not equipped, especially if the observation was completed much earlier.

Checkpoint: The collection either shows Leaping Toad as learned or confirms that the field unlock is still needed.

Do not assume: Do not use an empty active slot as proof that the unlock failed; ownership and equipment are separate states.

Travel to General's Shrine in Qinghe

Use the General's Shrine Boundary Stone, stay above ground, and move toward the southwest or western exit from the shrine grounds. The observation is outside the main shrine, not in the underground Echoes in the Shrine route.

Checkpoint: You are on the outer path near the shrine exit rather than inside the temple or below the statue.

Do not assume: The author map is an older Chinese-client area marker; use it to recognize the shrine loop, not as a current exact pin.

Find Liang Xiaolong by his toad pose

Look for the man repeatedly crouching or hopping on all fours beside a real toad. Current English route references place him near the southwest exit of General's Shrine.

Checkpoint: Liang Xiaolong and the animal are both present on the same side of the path.

Do not assume: If the whole shrine cast is missing after later story progress, stop searching the grass and use the NPC-state table below.

Talk to Liang Xiaolong first

Finish his short conversation and accept the observation. A current side-story reference calls this Exploration Quest Skill Theft: Amazing Toad.

Checkpoint: The conversation points you toward observing the toad and the short Skill Theft sequence becomes available.

Do not assume: Walking straight to the animal before completing Liang's dialogue can leave you with no useful interaction.

Target the real toad, not the posing NPC

Move beside the animal next to Liang and start the observation interaction. Liang demonstrates the idea, but the animal is the subject that produces the comprehension timing prompt.

Checkpoint: The camera enters the observation sequence and an on-screen timing meter or ring can appear around the toad.

Do not assume: If there is still no prompt, return to Liang, exhaust the dialogue, and approach the animal again from his side of the path.

Press only when the gold ring appears

Watch the toad and use the control shown by your own client when the gold timing ring appears. Repeat the successful observations until the comprehension meter is full.

Confirm the automatic reward, then equip it

Completing the Skill Theft mini-game awards Leaping Toad. Reopen the Mystic Skill collection to confirm ownership, then replace an active Mystic Skill or unlock another slot if no cast button appears.

Guides may show a small number of repeated prompts, but the observation meter is the authoritative state. Continue only while correctly timed rings add visible progress.

Use the screenshot only to identify the old 將軍祠 area. In the current English route, start at General's Shrine and search the southwest or western exit for Liang's on-all-fours animation.

I am searching inside or under the shrine

Return above ground. Amazing Toad is an outdoor observation near the exit; Echoes in the Shrine, the cracked floor, statue, and underground route are unrelated objectives.

Everyone at General's Shrine disappeared

Open the Encounter list and check Twisted Destiny. Multiple players reported that this quest temporarily occupied the shrine scene and that completing it restored the NPC cast.

Changing the time still does not restore Liang

Do not keep cycling the clock if the entire area is empty. The strongest matching recovery report was quest-state related, not time related. Finish the active shrine Encounter first.

Switching solo and online mode did not help

Treat world mode as a secondary test. One missing-NPC report persisted in both modes, while Twisted Destiny completion resolved the scene for other players.

Liang is present, but I see no observation prompt

Complete all of Liang's dialogue, then move to the real toad beside him. The current route is conversation first, animal observation second.

I keep pressing during the frog animation

Wait for the gold ring. The animal's hop is context, not the input cue; press the displayed control only inside the highlighted timing window.

I failed Skill Theft: Amazing Toad

Return to the observation and retry. Center the toad, use one deliberate input per gold ring, and let the visible meter decide whether each attempt counted.

The observation meter filled, but I saw no reward

Let the mini-game close fully, then inspect the Mystic Skill collection. If Leaping Toad is marked learned, the unlock succeeded even if the toast was missed.

Leaping Toad is learned but there is no button

Open the Mystic Skill loadout and assign it to an active slot. Replace another skill or unlock more slots through Basic Talents; repeating Amazing Toad will not create a button.
