Where Winds Meet Tai Chi: Bear Unlock & Cast Fixes

Tai Chi is learned early, but the tutorial compresses four different systems into one scene: story gating, Skill Theft timing, Mystic Skill equipment, and a camera-aimed environmental throw. This thread separates them, then handles the shield, co-op, leaf, fish, and missed-bear questions the tutorial leaves behind.

Tai ChiA Bear of a TaskSkill TheftShield Breaker太極 / 太极

Pinned answer

Observe the beehive bear, press on gold, then aim the spin with your camera.

Shortest correct method

Follow A Bear of a Task, finish the Verdant Wilds Wayfarer dialogue, and observe the bear striking the beehive tree.

Press the displayed control once when each Skill Theft cue turns gold or yellow. Tai Chi is awarded after comprehension. Equip it, cast on the bear from valid range, and turn the camera toward the breakable rocks while the target spins. The final hurl is automatic.

That choice belongs to the Wayfarer's Wulin Journal. The bear still teaches the skill.

Co-op failure

Retest in solo first.

Host, guest, and latency reports conflict. Solo is the cleaner diagnosis state.

Unlock route

Eight checkpoints from the Archery story beat to the rock throw.

01

Continue Chapter One through Archery

Tai Chi is taught on the early Qinghe main route. Finish the opening Archery beat and follow Ruby into Verdant Wilds until A Bear of a Task becomes the tracked story objective.

Checkpoint: The journal places you in Chapter One: Heaven Has No Pier and points toward a roadside stranger.

Do not assume: Do not search the Mystic Skill collection for a location hint before this story beat; the bear lesson is introduced by the main route.

02

Speak to the roadside Wayfarer

Complete the stranger's conversation by the campfire. This introduces Wayfarers, reveals local map guidance, and moves the quest toward the nearby bear.

Checkpoint: The quest objective changes from speaking with the stranger to searching for the bear nearby.

Do not assume: The Wayfarer conversation must finish. Walking straight to a remembered bear location can leave the observation state inactive.

03

Treat the 50 Echo Jade choice as a journal choice

The Wayfarer can offer a Wulin Journal for 50 Echo Jade, and the current walkthrough says you may pay or haggle. Tai Chi itself is not purchased from this dialogue; the bear still teaches it through Skill Theft.

Checkpoint: Whichever dialogue branch you use, the tracked route proceeds to the bear instead of adding Tai Chi as a shop item.

Do not assume: Do not restart because you paid, haggled, or refused an early price. Check the current objective, not the currency choice, for route progress.

04

Find the bear striking the beehive tree

Follow the marked route in Verdant Wilds to the large bear reaching for honey. Keep the animal alive and approach the observation side of the encounter rather than opening with ordinary attacks.

Checkpoint: The bear is beside a tree and beehive, with the quest still asking you to investigate or observe it.

Do not assume: A random sleeping bear or later white bear is not the first Tai Chi teacher. Use the early main-quest marker.

05

Start the bear Skill Theft sequence

Move close enough for the current observation or Skill Theft action and begin the comprehension mini-game. The lesson is taken from the bear's movement, not granted by the Wayfarer.

Checkpoint: The camera enters a timed observation sequence and circular indicators begin to close around the action cues.

Do not assume: If the bear only becomes hostile, confirm A Bear of a Task is tracked and return to the Wayfarer conversation before trying again.

06

Press once when each indicator turns gold or yellow

Use the control displayed by your own client only when the active indicator glows gold or yellow. Repeat deliberate successful inputs until comprehension completes.

Checkpoint: Successful timing advances the sequence and the game awards Tai Chi when the observation finishes.

Do not assume: Do not copy a keyboard or controller button from a video. Platform prompts differ, and pressing through grey rings wastes the timing window.

07

Confirm ownership and equip the Mystic Skill

Open the Mystic Skills collection if no combat button appears. Tai Chi can be learned while every active slot is occupied, so replace a slot or unlock another one through Basic Talents.

Checkpoint: Tai Chi is marked learned in the collection and appears on the active Mystic Skill bar after assignment.

Do not assume: It is not a weapon Martial Art. Searching sword, spear, or fan skill lists will not show it.

08

Aim the automatic throw into the rock pile

Move into valid range of the quest bear, cast Tai Chi, and rotate the camera toward the nearby breakable rocks while the bear circles you. The throw completes at the end of the animation; the important input is camera direction.

Checkpoint: The bear lands against the intended rock formation, the route can finish, and any exposed chest can be checked afterward.

Do not assume: Do not wait for a universal second release button. If the bear flies elsewhere, the cast connected but the camera was aimed at the wrong lane.

Skill Theft timing

The mini-game asks for one deliberate input per gold or yellow cue.

Watch color, not somebody else's button.

Current references describe the success state by the glowing indicator. PC, controller, and mobile layouts can show different controls, so this guide does not hard-code a key.

Grey means wait. Gold or yellow means press once. Then release and wait for the next movement.

PhaseLook forWhat to do
Before the cueGrey or inactive ringWait. Keep the scene centered and do not pre-press.
Active cueRing or indicator turns gold/yellowPress the displayed platform control once.
After successSequence advances to another movementRelease the control and wait for the next gold/yellow cue.
After a missNo progress or failed timing feedbackStop mashing and re-enter the next visible window deliberately.
CompletionObservation closes and Tai Chi is learnedCheck the collection before assuming a missing toast means failure.

A missed ring is a timing problem, not evidence that the quest is broken. Re-center on the next visible cue. When the sequence closes, verify the learned collection before chasing a reward toast that may have disappeared under another message.

Unlock check

Journal objective and learned collection answer different questions.

Cast check

Range, target class, and clear geometry matter after ownership is proven.

World check

Solo and co-op can produce different interaction results.

Shield diagnosis

A shield surviving one throw is not the same as Tai Chi failing.

Do not hunt for a secret parry window.

The current skill reference marks Tai Chi as Shield Breaker and especially potent against shield-bearing enemies. It does not say every shield vanishes on the first cast.

Player testing around Foundation Trial Chapter 5 points to a remaining-durability threshold: lower the shield, then let a Tai Chi hit cross the break point.

Target

Use a standard shield-bearing enemy, not a boss or Mighty unit.

Range

Move into close-to-medium range with a clean lock and open throw lane.

Threshold

Expect shield damage first. Community testing indicates the visible disarm can happen when the throw crosses the remaining shield-durability threshold.

Follow-up

Once the guard or shield breaks, use the opening for weapon damage instead of waiting inside the Tai Chi animation loop.

Failure test

If every grab fails, leave co-op and test solo. A shield staying up is different from the cast never connecting.

Evidence boundary: the shield role is current-reference support. The durability-threshold explanation comes from players reproducing the trial behavior. It is useful diagnosis, not an official formula or a promise that every challenge instance behaves identically.

Bear and rock chests

The first bear teaches the skill; later bears test whether you understood the throw.

Beehive tutorial bear

A Bear of a Task

This is the unlock owner. Observe it, learn Tai Chi, then use the camera-aimed throw on the nearby rocks. Keep the animal alive until the environmental check is complete.

Cries in the Distance

The Thick-Skinned Albino belongs to Jianghu Legacy 06. Throw it into three cave rock piles after the Yin-Yang route; it does not teach Tai Chi and has its own stuck-state guide.

Open Cries in the Distance

If the first bear died before the rocks broke

01

Prevent the miss

Before attacking, find the breakable rocks and stand so the bear-to-rock lane is visible. The quest teaches the throw; ordinary weapon damage is not needed for the environmental check.

02

Reset while the quest still owns the scene

A community report says A Bear of a Task can be reset from the Quest menu, returning the short route to the stranger and bear. Treat this as the first recovery test, not a guaranteed button in every later state.

03

Return after a world refresh

Players have reported the beehive bear reappearing later, sometimes down toward the river rather than at the tree. Reports disagree on timing, so this page does not promise an exact daily or weekly respawn.

04

Use another eligible hostile only as a fallback

Some players broke the same rocks by luring a hostile rider or another throwable target into range. This is a community workaround and can fail if the target resets before reaching the formation.

Do not label the chest permanently missable from one failed return. Reports include quest reset, delayed bear respawn, and alternate throwable enemies, but they disagree on exact timing. This guide preserves those options without inventing a guaranteed reset clock.

Combat and exploration

Use the target class and the environment, not a one-button myth.

Fishing test

If a cast ripples but produces no fish, move along the bank toward visible fish activity or a spot where normal fishing is available. Water reacting proves the skill fired; it does not prove fish are present under that exact patch.

Leaf-circle test

Look for a concentrated circular patch or a quest-owned golden leaf location. A decorative carpet of leaves is not enough. Cast at the center of the interaction instead of targeting a nearby NPC.

Author playbook

The old guide treated Tai Chi as a toy, a terrain tool, and a way to redirect pressure.

These images come from the original Traditional Chinese article. They are useful because they show the idea behind Tai Chi after the bear tutorial: choose a target, choose a landing lane, and make the environment part of the move. They do not prove current Global prompts, co-op permissions, weapon translations, or numeric balance.

Legacy Chinese-client field note

Throwing an eligible enemy toward deep water

Older Chinese-client gameplay frame showing a Tai Chi target being aimed toward water
The author's older Chinese-client field test uses Tai Chi as a terrain tool: pull an eligible ordinary enemy, turn toward deep water, and let the throw finish. Treat this as a legacy use demonstration, not proof that every current enemy, quest target, or co-op state permits the grab.Open full image

Legacy Chinese-client field note

Co-op target positioning experiment

Older Chinese-client co-op gameplay frame with a Tai Chi target positioned across a courtyard
This archive frame belongs to the author's playful enemy-volley setup. It shows the intended spacing and open throw lane, but current Global co-op reports are inconsistent: guests may fail to grab world targets, and even hosts can see latency-related misses.Open full image

Legacy Chinese-client field note

Wind-wall volley variant

Older Chinese-client gameplay frame using a fan wind wall behind a Tai Chi target
The old playbook adds a fan wind wall as a make-believe net while two players throw an enemy back and forth. It is a sandbox trick rather than a progression route, and the old Chinese martial-art labels are not used as current Global build advice.Open full image

Legacy Chinese-client field note

Group-fight target redirection

Older Chinese-client combat frame showing several enemies near a Tai Chi throw setup
The final archive example redirects nearby enemies toward a teammate. The useful principle is target isolation and camera-controlled direction; deliberately dumping aggro on another player is not presented here as good co-op etiquette.Open full image

Terrain first

Deep water and cliffs can matter more than raw damage on eligible ordinary enemies.

Direction matters

The camera chooses where the target leaves the spin, so preserve an open lane.

Co-op is conditional

Old sandbox tricks remain ideas, not guarantees under current host and latency rules.

FAQ

Short answers for the searches that usually happen mid-quest.

Where do you unlock Tai Chi in Where Winds Meet?+

Continue Chapter One through Archery, follow A Bear of a Task into Verdant Wilds, speak to the roadside Wayfarer, and observe the bear reaching for a beehive. Complete the gold/yellow Skill Theft timing to learn Tai Chi.

Do I have to pay 50 Echo Jade to unlock Tai Chi?+

No. The 50 Echo Jade choice belongs to the Wayfarer's Wulin Journal dialogue. You may pay or use the available haggle route, but Tai Chi itself is learned from the nearby bear through Skill Theft.

When should I press during the Tai Chi Skill Theft?+

Press the control shown by your own platform once when the active ring or indicator turns gold or yellow. Ignore grey rings, release between cues, and avoid mashing.

Why is the bear missing its observation prompt?+

Track A Bear of a Task, finish the Wayfarer conversation, and approach the beehive bear while the search objective is active. A random bear elsewhere will not necessarily start the tutorial.

Why is Tai Chi learned but missing from my controls?+

Tai Chi is a Mystic Skill and must be assigned to an active Mystic Skill slot. Check the learned collection, replace an occupied slot, and use your platform's Mystic modifier or wheel rather than a weapon Martial Art menu.

How do I throw the bear into the rocks?+

Move into valid range, cast Tai Chi on the bear, and rotate the camera toward the breakable rock pile while the bear spins. The throw finishes automatically at the end of the animation; camera direction determines the landing lane.

What if I killed the bear before opening the rock chest?+

If A Bear of a Task is still active, check the Quest menu for a reset. Otherwise leave and return after a world refresh and search near the tree and river. Players report respawns and alternate throwable targets, but timing and availability are inconsistent community leads.

Why does Tai Chi play a failed animation?+

The usual causes are an invalid or resistant target, wrong range, cooldown, blocked geometry, or co-op world state. Test solo on an ordinary enemy at close-to-medium range with a clean lock before changing the loadout.

Does Tai Chi remove a shield in one hit?+

Do not rely on a universal one-hit removal. Current references call Tai Chi especially potent against shield-bearing enemies, while player testing indicates the visible disarm may occur only when the throw crosses the shield's remaining durability threshold.

Why does Tai Chi fail in co-op but work in water?+

That matches repeated community reports about host, guest, and latency-sensitive world interactions. Switch to solo and test the same ordinary target; co-op failure does not mean the skill is unlearned or bound incorrectly.

Does Tai Chi work on every boss?+

No universal target whitelist is published. Major bosses, Mighty enemies, scripted targets, and some multiplayer objects can resist or reject the grab, so use an ordinary eligible enemy when diagnosing the skill.

How do I use Tai Chi on leaves?+

Cast at the center of a concentrated or marked leaf circle used by an exploration interaction. Ordinary decorative leaves are not automatically puzzle nodes.

How do I catch fish with Tai Chi?+

Use it toward water with visible fish activity or a recognized fishing zone. The ripple can send fish leaping; move along the bank if nothing reacts because not every body of water contains a valid target.

Is Taiji or Taijiquan a different Mystic Skill?+

No. Tai Chi is the current Global English name for 太極 / 太极. Taiji and Taijiquan are search romanizations, while A Bear of a Time and Drive Away the Black Bear are older labels for the same early quest sequence.
