Link the account first; learn the combat loop second; delay the expensive build.

If an existing character is moving to another platform, link the account beforecreating a second character. In the game, follow Qinghe's Main Chapter, learn yellow-dodge, red-parry, Qi break, and Execute, then open Wayfarers and Boundary Stones. Test one Martial Art before committing scarce materials.

First session

A useful first hour in six stops.

  1. 01

    Choose a readable difficulty

Recommended is the balanced starting point. Story gives more help; Expert removes Assist Deflection. Legend is creation-only and cannot be reselected after lowering it.

  2. 02

    Learn Health, Qi, and Execute

Pressure or parry until enemy Qi reaches zero, use the Exhausted opening, then trigger Execute before the window closes.

  3. 03

    Read yellow and red attacks

Dodge a yellow or gold unblockable attack. Time a parry near impact for a red attack instead of reacting the moment the color appears.

  4. 04

Follow the Main Chapter in Qinghe

The gleaming yellow objective opens systems that later guides assume you have. Take useful side stops, then return when a menu or activity is locked.

  5. 05

Open the map as you travel

Speak to the campfire-style Wayfarer to reveal a region and activate nearby Boundary Stones for fast travel.

  6. 06

Test one Martial Art before heavy spending

Use higher raw-stat gear from normal drops, learn one weapon rhythm, and delay set farming, substat tuning, and full Inner Way investment.

Common questions

Platform and account

Is Where Winds Meet free to play?

Yes. Steam lists it as Free to Play, and the official store copy says gameplay content is free with monetization limited to cosmetic items. It also carries in-app purchases.

Platform details

Which platforms support Where Winds Meet?

The current official pages cover PS5, Steam and other PC launchers, mobile, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Xbox Cloud. Cross-play is supported across the current platform family.

Crossplay guide

Does Where Winds Meet have cross-progression?

Yes. Use the same bound account across supported platforms. Xbox guidance adds an important limit: cross-play and cross-progression work only within the same server region, and characters cannot move between regions.

Cross-save rules

What should I do before playing on a new platform?

Link the existing account before creating a new character on the new platform. If both accounts already contain character data, normal linking is not possible; use official Customer Support rather than deleting or rebinding blindly.

Safe link order

Can I play Where Winds Meet solo?

Yes. The game has a large solo story and open-world route. Co-op, Guild, PvP, multiplayer dungeons, and raids are available, but a new player does not need a permanent group to begin or progress the main journey.

Start solo

How do I play Where Winds Meet with friends?

Open the bamboo-hat Mode Switch and use Solo/Co-op Mode when you want a private room with a specific friend. Use Online Mode for the public shared world. If the mode entry is absent, keep progressing the opening route and recheck the live menu instead of trusting one universal unlock-level claim.

Invite a friend

Does story progress carry over in co-op?

Treat Main Chapter progress as personal. A host can invite friends into supported activities and eligible Campaign Challenge clears can grant activity rewards, but a shared victory does not prove that every guest advanced the same story flags.

Common questions

First hour and combat

What should I do first in Where Winds Meet?

Follow the Main Chapter in Qinghe, complete the combat tutorial, reveal the map with Wayfarers, activate Boundary Stones, equip stronger raw-stat gear, and test one Martial Art before farming a finished build.

First-hour route

Which difficulty should a beginner choose?

Recommended is the balanced default; Story adds more help. Expert removes Assist Deflection. Choose Legend only during character creation if you want that restriction, because lowering Legend permanently removes it from that character's options.

Difficulty settings

What do red and yellow attacks mean?

Red attacks reward a correctly timed parry near impact. Yellow or gold attacks are unblockable and should be dodged. Normal strings can be parried or dodged, but learn the full combo before counterattacking.

Combat mistakes

What are Qi, Exhausted, and Execute?

Qi is the defensive or stagger bar. When enemy Qi reaches zero, the enemy becomes Exhausted and gives you a free damage window. Use safe burst, then take the Execute prompt before the opening closes.

Combat mechanics

What is the best starting weapon?

Panacea Fan is the safest general Qi Shan choice because it adds ranged healing, while the default Nameless Sword already provides early damage. This is not a permanent class choice; the starting options remain obtainable later.

Choose a weapon

Should I spend upgrade materials immediately?

Upgrade only enough to keep the active route comfortable. Delay perfect sets, random-substat tuning, speculative shop buys, and full Inner Way investment until you know which Martial Art and role you will keep using.

Common questions

World and progression

Why is my map still covered?

Find the campfire-style Wayfarer marker and speak to that NPC to reveal the surrounding region. Boundary Stones provide fast travel and exploration progress, but they do not replace the Wayfarer map reveal.

Open the map

Do I need to join a Sect?

No. You can remain Sectless. Joining one Sect gives its shop, rules, benefits, and cheaper access to associated Martial Arts, but only one Sect can be active at a time. Choose by obligations before cosmetics.

Compare Sects

When should I collect Mystic Skills?

Start with skills that solve an immediate route, movement, control, or combat problem. You do not need every Mystic Skill in the first session; match the current English name and unlock prerequisite before chasing an old translated route.

Mystic Skill routes

What daily and weekly tasks actually matter?

Protect expiring claims and natural Energy each day. Once per week, review Guild, Sect, Seasonal Battle Pass, limited shops, Outpost rewards, and old gear. Do not clear every timed icon just because it exists.

Routine checklist

Why did my level stop increasing?

Your Character Level probably reached the cap allowed by the current Solo Mode Level. Open Mode Switch > Solo Mode Level and read whether the next gate is an account-day timer, a direct Breakthrough, or a Taiping Mausoleum Foundation Trial.

Fix the level cap

What is Stored EXP, and can I spend it?

Stored EXP banks experience earned while your visible Character Level is capped. It is not an inventory currency and has no manual spend button; raise the cap, then earn ordinary EXP so the stored pool can return automatically.

Stored EXP guide

Why is my Character Level high but my damage still low?

Character Level only opens the ceiling. Compare both equipped Martial Art levels with it, then audit the active Battle Build's gear, Inner Ways, Mystic Skills, and one repeatable combat test. A higher Martial Mastery score alone does not guarantee higher damage.

Diagnose low damage

How do I raise Martial Mastery?

Start with the active Battle Build, raise both equipped Martial Arts toward the current Character Level, replace gear below the current floor, then check equipped Inner Ways and Mystic Skills. Use Path Guide to find the missing lane and the live activity panel for its exact requirement.

Raise Martial Mastery

Can I follow an old Chinese guide?

Use it for names, puzzle logic, landmarks, and route clues, then match the Global version, date, current English term, quest state, rewards, and UI. Never assume a CN event, price, build value, or release date applies to Global.
